Ian Hallett

Ian Hallett is a Chartered Accountant with over 25 years experience in public practice in Canberra, including over 3 years as a Senior Tax Manager with Ernst & Young. He commenced practice as Halletts in 1996 and is actively involved in tax, business improvement consulting and litigation support services. Ian provides strategic business consulting and system-related advice to clients looking to grow and develop their businesses. Ian holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) from Chisholm Institute of Technology (now Monash University), Melbourne and was admitted as an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1990. Ian is also a Registered Tax Agent and a Fellow of the Taxation Institute of Australia. Ian serves on the Finance & Audit Committee of Northside Community Services and has previously served as Honorary Treasurer of the YMCA of Canberra.

Ian is married to Elizabeth and is the proud father and basketball coach of 3 young children, Max, Brendan & Sophie and father figure to Toby the Labradoodle. Ian is a keen runner and Hawks supporter.

Elizabeth Hallett

Elizabeth Hallett has been with Halletts since 1996 and has more than 20 years experience in Financial Accounting. At Halletts, Elizabeth assists our client with their accounting system requirements, as well as having a hand in the administration side of the firm. Elizabeth spends most of her days taking care of her (and Ian's) 3 young children, Max, Brendan & Sophie; and more recently, their new dog “Toby”. During the footy season, Elizabeth eagerly trades footy news and tips while cheering for her beloved Magpies.

Elizabeth is a Certified Practicing Accountant.

Rob Gordon

Rob completed a Bachelor of Financial Administration degree at University of New England in 1989 and then commenced employment with small practice in Corryong, Vic. In 1993, he completed further studies to become a CPA. Rob ended up staying in Corryong for just over 10 years, enjoying the relaxed country lifestyle. During this time he gained great experience in dealing with issues facing the rural industry and rural communities in general.

In September 2000 he began work at Halletts and enjoys the many challenges which small business and tax advisory services offer. Rob became a partner of the firm in 2005. In October 2010, he was admitted to membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants as a Chartered Accountant. He has also been a Justice of the Peace for the state of NSW since 1987.

On the personal side, Rob has have been happily married to his University sweetheart Karlene since 1993. They recently adopted a dog “Ablett”, which occupies a lot of their time. As the dog’s name suggests, Rob is a keen Geelong supporter (GO CATS) and tries to get to as many AFL games as possible. He also enjoys a social game of golf and tennis, and a nice drop of red.

Dana Whitty

Dana Whitty joined Halletts in August 2001 after many years (too many to quote) experience in Canberra based firms.

At Halletts, Dana has a hands-on role in our taxation, financial reporting, business services, fringe benefits tax and salary packaging areas and is happy to assist clients and staff with MYOB queries. Dana also oversees the firm’s internal quality control procedures. Dana became a partner of the firm in 2005.

During her free time, Dana can be seen cheering on the Canberra Capitals, at sausage sizzles and other fundraising activities for Snowy Hydro Southcare while trying (very hard) to keep her visits to the wine cellar at a minimum. During the football months she has her fingers crossed that the Brumbies and Essendon Bombers will have a better year than the last.

Annette Macauley

Annette Macauley joined Halletts' Goulburn office in 2001 after a long career in the banking sector. At Halletts, Annette runs the Goulburn office on a day to day basis and nothing is too difficult for her to solve or find the answer to. Annette assists our clients with income tax return preparation, BAS preparation and MYOB and Quicken work.

Annette claims she does not like to exercise and would rather spend her spare time reading, gardening, cooking and drinking wine. In 2009, she married her man, Guy, and they live in domestic bliss along with their cat (and master), “Theodore”.

Simon Medway

Simon is a Certified Practicing Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting & Business Management). He has over 15 years experience in a variety of accounting roles, with over 10 years in professional practice and a further 5 years in other commercial and Government roles focusing on corporate taxation (Income Tax, Fringe Benefits Tax, Payroll Tax etc) and both management and financial accounting.

Simon is a keen cricketer and loves fishing with his mates down the coast at every opportunity.

Felicity Magnussen

Felicity joined the Halletts team in 2009, and comes with over 10 years experience in taxation and business services. She is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and obtained her Bachelor of Commerce degree from the Australian National University. With experience in many areas of public practice, from individual income tax right through to large corporate structures, Felicity enjoys helping her clients obtain their personal and business goals.

When not at work Felicity is a busy mum of 3 children, James, Steven & Fiona. The weekends are spent cheering on Soccer or Cricket (as the seasons change) and will soon include Dance performances! When time permits, Felicity loves to spend her time in her veggie patch, having coffee with friends and drinking a “good drop” with her hubby Dave!

Bob Coffey

Bob Coffey qualified as a Chartered Accountant way back in the last century, since then has owned and run a retail business in Sydney, a service business in Canberra and a consulting business. Bob has consulted both locally and overseas including Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong and Bangladesh.

Bob has been involved with computerised accounting since 1987 and is available to assist our clients with MYOB, Quickbooks and other accounting software. With his previous business experience Bob has a passionate interest in Business development.

Bob is a keen golfer,(always available for a game) and supports the Raiders, the Brumbies and Collingwood most of which is stressful. For relaxation he prefers designing gardens.

Christine Jewell

Chris has worked in the accounting field since 18, in accounting firms, building & construction industry, real estate industry and has run her own bookkeeping business for 14 years.

She loves working with MYOB but particularly when providing the personalised service to clients and fine tuning their MYOB file so they can actually get something out of it that they understand at the end.

Chris loves a ‘get-together’ with lots of laughs, music and good food & wine, particularly when spent down the coast.

She has two beautiful boys who are the light of her life; and a wonderful partner who is “the most patient & generous person I have EVER come across”.

To relax , Chris enjoys training and playing with “her” dog (which came about as a result of her son going to Sydney to buy a toolbox for his work ute and arriving home with a puppy), gardening and spending time down the coast just chilling (although the bookwork usually goes too).

Amanda Sasse

Amanda joined Halletts in July 2005, coming from a retail background with a strong emphasis on customer service. Since joining us, she has completed her Business Certificate III and Financial Services (Bookkeeping) Certificate IV, and is looking at starting an accounting degree.

Amanda also assists our clients with income tax returns and BAS returns; and is the ASIC manager at Halletts.

Amanda loves spending time with her family and boyfriend David, whom she’s been dating since pre-school (well, since high school anyway). She loves shopping, water skiing and says she’ll “try anything” once. Contact:Amanda Sasse

David Smereczanski

David also joined Halletts Goulburn office in July 2005 having come from a banking background (having worked with Annette in a past life) and having been an industry accounts clerk. David also assists our clients with their income tax and business accounts.

David is happily married to Melinda, and has two boys, Charlie (12) and Jack (10), together with the family dog “Bruiser”. His interests include fishing, gardening and cheering on his boys at their various sporting activities. Contact:David Smereczanski

Winnie Chan

Winnie completed her Bachelor of Commerce in Australian National University in 2009 and joined Halletts in the same year. To challenge and continue her professional development further, she is currently pursuing the Chartered Accountant’s Program. Personally, she is disarming, energetic and easy to get along with; while professionally, she is determined, persistent and places a high value on her integrity.

Winnie enjoys working at Halletts as “the people at work make me smile every day. We work hard but we enjoy ourselves”. Every year, Winnie goes back to Hong Kong to spend time with her family and friends and does lots of shopping! She considers this to be the best reward for all her hard work and study.

Deborah Kay

Deborah joined Halletts in January 2011. She has previously worked with accounting practices in the Northern Territory & Perth. She has a Master of Accounting and is currently enrolled in the CPA program. At Halletts, Deborah enjoys working with a diverse range of clients with a particular interest in small business.

Prior to her accounting career, Deborah served as an Air Traffic Control Officer in the Royal Australian Air Force, which took her all over Australia and included a deployment to the Solomon Islands.

In her time off, she enjoys spending time with her young family.

Maria Hegarty

Maria joined Halletts in 2006 and heads up our reception area and administration department. Maria is happy to assist our clients however she can and nothing is too difficult.

Maria is the proud mum of two sons, and spends her spare time playing touch footy or dragon boating. She recently represented Australia in the grand masters world dragon boating team championships in Tampa, Florida, coming away with 4 silver medals. (Brilliant effort Maria!) She loves spending time catching up with friends and “enjoying life to the full”.

Melanie Esterhuizen

Melanie is our latest part-time recruit to Halletts, having commenced in May 2011. She assists Maria with reception duties and dealing with the mountains of ATO correspondence which comes in.

Melanie moved to Canberra from South Africa with her family in 2009. She’s not overly keen on Canberra winters and hopes to acclimatise one day.
